The 28th Annual Workshop on Bankruptcy and Business Reorganization is a two-fold program for those who desire a grounding in the fundamentals of bankruptcy law and practice, and for practitioners and financial professionals who are experienced in the business reorganization process.

   

With the aid of alumnus and trustee Jay Furman ('71), NYU Law establishes the Furman Academic Fellowships. The Fellowships include a full-tuition scholarship and summer research funding for students who show particular promise and interest in becoming legal academics.

   

Columbia Law and NYU Law join to offer a course exchange program to students at both schools.

   

Dean Richard Revesz appoints William Sherwood, formerly Vice President of Human Resources at Royal Philips Electronics, as the Assistant Dean for Administration. Jul. 18, 2002.

   

Daniel G. Collins, alumnus and Professor of Law Emeritus of NYU Law, passed away in his home on June 16, 2002. The NYU Law Community remembers Professor Collins.

   

Dean Revesz appoints H. David Rosenbloom, former counsel to the U.S. Treasury, as the new director of the International Tax Program.

   

Richard Revesz, the Lawrence King Professor of Law at New York University School of Law, has become the 14th dean of NYU Law. He succeeds John Sexton, who became the University's President after 14 years as the Law School's Dean.

   

The former President of France, Valéry Giscard D'Estaing, discusses the European Convention, related issues on the future of Europe, European-American relations, and global governance generally, at the closing session of the Jean Monnet Seminar Series.

   

The Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at NYU Law, one of the nation's most innovative teaching and research programs on real estate and urban policy issues, is now a joint research center in the New York University School of Law and The Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service.

   

New York University School of Law's Center on Environmental & Land Use Law and the New York University Environmental Law Journal sponsor a conference entitled, "Regulatory Expropriations in International Law." The conference focuses on claims by foreign investors that their investments were "expropriated" by environmental regulations that limited their ability to do business under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

   

New York University School of Law's Review of Law & Social Change, in conjunction with the Advancement Project's Public Intellectual Initiative, hosts a dynamic colloquium entitled, "Building a Multiracial Social Justice Movement" on Friday, February 1, 2002. The colloquium will focus on the role of race in social justice movements.

   

New York University School of Law, in conjunction with the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Foundation and Georgetown University, hosts a conference entitled, "Islam and America in a Global World: A Dialogue." The conference will be hosted by former President Clinton and includes four separate panels comprised of academics, politicians, and business leaders from around the world. The January 24, 2002 event can be seen live on NYU Law's Web site.

   

Diane C. Yu, a former White House Fellow, will discuss the benefits of becoming a White House Fellow, the nation's most prestigious fellowship for leadership development and public service, on Monday, Nov. 26th, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at New York University's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

   

The Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy at NYU Law sponsors the Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman Seminar in Intellectual Property, entitled, "Copyright Wars in Cyberspace." Wednesday, November 14th at 5:30 PM in Vanderbilt Hall.

   

Barnett R. Rubin, director of studies and senior fellow at the New York University Center on International Cooperation to give lecture on, "The Future of Afghanistan and the War Against Terrorism," on Monday, November 5, 3:00 - 5:00 PM in Vanderbilt Hall, Tishman Auditorium.

   

CSPAN's America and The Courts to air Justice Stephen Breyer's speech given for the James Madison Lecture: Our Democratic Constitution that was originally delivered on October 22nd at NYU Law. CSPAN will air the speech on Saturday, November 3rd at 7:00 PM.

   

Sixth Annual Derrick Bell Lecture on Race in American Society: Accountability For Privacy Life. Anita L. Allen, Visiting Professor of Law from Yale Law School will give the lecture at NYU Law on Thursday, November 1.

   

James Madison Lecture: Our Democratic Constitution. Honorable Stephen Breyer, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court delivers the 2001 annual James Madison Lecture on Monday, October 22nd at NYU Law.

   

CSPAN to air panel discussion held at NYU Law on Decision-Making Mechanisms of Constitutional Adjudication. Participating panelists are Professor Pasquale Pasquino, Hauser Global Law School Program Faculty; Professor Valerio Onida, Judge at the Italian Constitutional Court; Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, U.S. Supreme Court; Professor Norman Dorsen, Founding Director, Hauser Global Law School Program; and Justice Sandile Ngcobo, South African Constitutional Court. Program airs Saturday, October 13 at 6:30 PM.

   

CSPAN to Air NYU Law Groundbreaking Ceremony, including Dean Sexton's introduction of Justice O'Connor and her speech, on Saturday, October 6th at 7:00 PM during "America and the Courts."
