Who May Use Illiad?

ILL services are available to NYU law students and faculty. These services are not available to other patrons of the library.

What Materials Are Available Through Illiad?

Although many materials are available through Interlibrary Loan, the following materials are often unavailable, depending on the rules of the lending library:

  • multi-volume sets

  • very recent material

  • entire issues of periodicals

  • reference/reserve materials

  • rare books/original manuscripts

How to Request an Item Through Illiad

Go to Illiad Interlibrary Loan.   New users should click on First Time Users, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "First Timer Users Click Here".  Once you have created your account, you may place your request for materials.

Before submitting a request, please search the JULIUS and  Bobcat catalogs, in order to verify unavailability of your materials at the Law Library or at Bobst Library.

How Long Does It Take?

Materials are usually received within 5-10 working days but this will ultimately depend on how quickly other libraries in the network respond to our requests. Patrons should be aware that we try our best to obtain requested items as quickly as possible, but the delays sometimes occur due to circumstances beyond our control.

Loan Period/Renewals

The length of a loan will vary, and is dependent on the loan rules of the lending institution. Please note that the due date will be clearly indicated on the check out slip. In some cases, a renewal is possible; check with the ILL Department at least one week before the item is due.

Pick Up and Return of Material

Please pickup all material from, and return all material to, the Law Library Circulation Desk.

Fines/Recalls

Overdue notices are sent to library patrons when books have not been returned.  Any patron with an interlibrary loan book one month overdue will have both Julius and Interlibrary Loan privileges suspended until the book is returned.

Any fines assessed by a lending institution for material returned after its due date are the responsibility of the patron. Failure to pay fines will result in both Julius and Interlibrary Loan privileges suspended until the book is returned.

ILL material is occasionally recalled before its due date by the lending institution. We will notify you if such circumstances should arise.
